I played in the garden the past two days
July 5, 2011
I’d forgotten how good it felt to have:
the crazy hair that only wind and sweat can bring,
muscles that aren’t sore but are letting you know they worked today,
the warm glow of a bit too much sun,
an extra-sized hunger,
slivers in my hands,
dirt under my nails,
stains on my fingers,
smelly clothes,
wet shoes,
and eyelids that won’t stay open.
It’s been way too long and I’m happy to report there’s a lot more work needed in these gardens.

Gardening is more exercise than you’d think, isn’t it. I’ve missed messing around in mine lately. . . hoping to get out there more. It’s also so satisfying to make a weedy, nasty patch of earth look beautiful and green.
Never been into gardening. As a kid I used to water my folks’ garden – they had a lawn, some plants, roses and some others. I preferred animals and would spend a lot of time with my dog. My dog, a female, seemed to love the garden plants, especially roses, a lot and would always stop to take time and smell the flowers as she passed by.
