SOC Sunday – I need a hobby or at least direction

August 12, 2012

Today’s (optional) prompt: Beginnings

All right, I probably don’t need another hobby, it’s more likely that I just need a bit of focus, and to concentrate on the hobbies (and the volumes of hobby materials) I already have. One of the selling features of this house (you’ll hear that often, there were many for me) was this great room in the basement. I immediately saw it as my craft room, primarily because I knew it could hold all my stuff – the cardmaking, the stamping, the candlemaking, the scrapbooking, the sewing, knitting…I’m sure I’ve missed a few.

And I was right. All of it fit there, and over the past year we’ve managed to acquire almost enough shelves to store all the various supplies. Beyond that, I haven’t done much. I’m not down there working away for the joy of it, I’ve ripped off a few cards, a couple of gifts, but it’s all been purpose-driven creativity.

But wait, there’s more, there are the hobbies I have that don’t fit in the shelves, some of which I still dabble at (taking pictures) and some of which I haven’t touched in ages (astronomy and motorcycling).

In July I attended two one-day events, the first was a lighting workshop (photography) and the second was SoCapOtt (blogging) and I realized just how much I’ve been coasting. I’m not really pushing myself in anything I do, I’m not taking risks, I’m not learning new skills, I’m not trying new things. And that needs to change in order for me to develop. I’m not sure what change that format will be, or what area I’ll concentrate on developing, but it’s time for me to start learning, evolving, bettering.

This was my 5 minute Stream of Consciousness Sunday post. It’s five minutes of your time and a brain dump. Want to try it? Here are the rules…

  • Set a timer and write for 5 minutes.
  • Write an intro to the post if you want but don’t edit the post. No proofreading or spellchecking. This is writing in the raw.

  • Add the Stream of Consciousness Sunday badge to your post (in the sidebar). .
  • Link up your post here.

Photography hobby results can fit on your shelf… Good luck as you try to challenge yourself in your hobbies and as you continue to love the selling points of your house.

Agreed about the results, the question is storing the gear *g* I mean the lights and the stands and the backdrops, and the…I might have a problem.

Aiiiighh!!! I forgot about all of the photo supplies for pro-type shooting. That will take up a lot of space.

C'mon, tell me what you think. You know you want to!
